Permit rules
QuotaPermits are required year-round to float the San Juan between Montezuma Creek and Clay Hills. Preseason lottery allocates launches for the April 15 - July 15 high-demand window; other dates are reservable directly.
GroupMaximum group size is 25 people, including all ages.
FeesNon-refundable $6 application/transaction fee. Per-person permit fees apply March 1 - October 31 and vary by segment: Sand Island to Mexican Hat $10, Mexican Hat to Clay Hills $20, Sand Island to Clay Hills $30.
TransferPermits are issued to the trip leader (18 or older), who must be present on the trip.
