Permit rules
QuotaThere are no designated backcountry campsites or trail quotas in the park; permits are unlimited and only required for overnight stays, not day hikes.
GroupBackcountry camping groups are limited to 10 people maximum.
Fees$6 non-refundable Recreation.gov permit reservation fee plus a $5 per-person, per-trip recreation fee (ages 15 and under free). Park entrance fees are separate.
TransferOne permit/reservation per trip; the reservation confirmation email serves as the permit.
SafetyCamping is prohibited within 1/4 mile of hydrothermal areas and certain landmarks and 100 feet from water; the summer season is short and winter access requires snow travel.
