Permit rules
QuotaAbout one third of peak-season backcountry permits are available by advance reservation; the rest are walk-up.
GroupIndividual permits can include up to 6 people; groups of 7-12 must use designated group sites.
Fees$20 flat permit fee plus nightly per-person fees may apply.
TransferPermit holder or alternate must pick up the permit in person by the posted deadline.
SafetySnow, bears, high elevation, and fast-changing alpine weather require conservative itinerary planning.
